Venus Retrograde 2026 in Scorpio and Libra

When the Masks Come Off

· Astrology,Venus Retrograde

3 October – 14 November 2026

Venus retrograde asks us to look again. Not necessarily because something is wrong, but because something may no longer be true.

From 3 October to 14 November 2026, Venus moves retrograde from 8°29′ Scorpio back to 22°52′ Libra, taking us through two very different landscapes of the heart. The wider Venus retrograde shadow began on 31 August and continues until around 15 December, giving this cycle a much longer reach than the six weeks of the retrograde itself. Venus retrogrades approximately every 19 months, and this is the only Venus retrograde of 2026. It is therefore worth paying attention to, particularly if the themes of relationships, self-worth, money, values and emotional reciprocity have already been making themselves known in your life.

The movement from Scorpio back into Libra is significant. Scorpio asks us to look beneath the surface, while Libra asks us what we are going to do with what we discover. One takes us inward; the other brings what we have learned back into relationship. This is not necessarily a difficult process, although it can be uncomfortable. Sometimes clarity arrives gently. At other times, it comes through recognising something we have been trying not to see. Either way, Venus retrograde can offer an opportunity to become more honest with ourselves without becoming harder towards ourselves or others.

What is Venus asking us to reconsider?

Venus is traditionally associated with love, attraction, relationships, beauty, pleasure, money and value. But beneath all of these subjects is a deeper question: What do we value, and what do we believe we are worth?

During a Venus retrograde, some of that attention turns inward. We may begin to reconsider relationships, financial decisions, personal priorities or the compromises we have made in order to maintain harmony. We may also notice where we have been looking outside ourselves for validation or allowing someone else's needs, expectations or approval to determine our choices.

This does not mean that every relationship needs to be questioned or every decision reversed. Retrogrades are not instructions to dismantle our lives. They are periods of reflection, when something that has been moving automatically can become conscious again. If a relationship already feels healthy and reciprocal, this period can deepen understanding and encourage more honest communication. If something has been out of balance, however, it may become increasingly difficult to ignore.

The important thing is not to rush towards a conclusion simply because something has become uncomfortable. Instead, ask yourself what the discomfort might be showing you.

Look at 8° Scorpio and 22° Libra in your natal chart. The houses containing these degrees can indicate where this Venus review may have a particularly personal effect. These areas of life may invite you to reconsider what you value, how you relate to others and where greater balance or honesty is needed.

Venus in Scorpio: Looking Beneath the Surface

Venus stations retrograde at 8°29′ Scorpio on 3 October. Scorpio is not interested in appearances alone. It wants to understand what is happening underneath them.

This can bring questions around trust, intimacy, vulnerability, attachment, control, shared resources and emotional dependency. Feelings that have been manageable at the surface level may become harder to dismiss, particularly when we have been using distraction, busyness or rationalisation to avoid them. You might begin to recognise where fear has been influencing a relationship, or where loyalty has quietly become self-abandonment. You may realise that you have been accepting an arrangement because changing it seemed more frightening than remaining in it. You may also discover that something you once needed is no longer something you want.

This is one of the deeper gifts of a Scorpio Venus retrograde. It can help us distinguish between what we genuinely value and what we have become attached to out of fear. Sometimes this involves another person. Sometimes it involves money or security. Sometimes it involves the image we have created of ourselves. And sometimes the most important relationship being reviewed is the one we have with ourselves.

What have you been accepting that you no longer believe is acceptable? Where have you been giving more than you are receiving? Where have you confused keeping the peace with actually being at peace? These questions do not need immediate answers. They simply need enough honesty for us to begin seeing what is really there.

Venus and Pluto: When the Deeper Truth Becomes Harder to Ignore

Venus makes three squares to Pluto during the wider retrograde cycle, around 15 September, 20 October and 9 December. The first occurs during the pre-shadow, the second while Venus is retrograde, and the third after Venus has turned direct.

Pluto can bring questions of power, control, attachment and authenticity to the surface. It can make certain dynamics more difficult to overlook, particularly when a relationship has developed an imbalance of power or when one person has been carrying more emotional responsibility than the other.

This is where the idea of masks coming off becomes meaningful, but perhaps not in the way we might initially imagine. It is easy to interpret Pluto as revealing someone else's hidden motives or exposing someone else's behaviour. Sometimes that may happen. We may see a person, relationship or situation differently because we are finally able to recognise something that was always there.

But Pluto also turns the mirror towards us.

We may notice our own need to be chosen, our fear of abandonment or our tendency to keep giving in the hope that eventually we will receive what we need. We may recognise how often we have made ourselves smaller to preserve a relationship, or how often we have stayed silent because expressing our truth felt too risky.

Sometimes the mask that comes off is our own. While that can initially feel uncomfortable, it can also be freeing. Once we see a pattern clearly, we no longer have to participate in it unconsciously.

24 October: Venus Meets the Sun

One of the most significant moments of this retrograde occurs on 24 October, when the Sun meets retrograde Venus at approximately 0°45′ Scorpio.

This is known as the Venus Star Point, or inferior conjunction, and it marks an important turning point in the Venus cycle. Symbolically, Venus disappears into the light of the Sun before eventually emerging again as the Morning Star.

There is something beautiful about this symbolism because it reflects the deeper nature of the retrograde itself. Something that has been hidden, unconscious or difficult to articulate can move into awareness. You might suddenly understand why a particular situation has been troubling you. A need you have minimised may become impossible to ignore. You may recognise that you have been looking to another person for a form of validation that you need to begin offering yourself.

Equally, the realisation may be very simple. You may understand that you love someone but that the relationship needs to change. You may realise that you have been afraid to ask for what you need. Or you may discover that something you thought you wanted no longer holds the same meaning.

Clarity does not always require an immediate decision. Sometimes the first gift of clarity is simply being able to see.

Mercury Retrograde Joins Venus

There is another important layer to this period because Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio on the same day as the Venus–Sun conjunction.

Mercury turns retrograde on 24 October at approximately 20°59′ Scorpio and stations direct on 13 November at around 5°02′ Scorpio. This places Venus and Mercury in a shared period of reflection during the final weeks of Venus retrograde.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio can bring attention to conversations that were avoided, information that was missing and subjects that were postponed because they felt too complicated or uncomfortable. Something may return for discussion. An old conversation may suddenly make more sense. You may discover that you misunderstood something, or that someone else misunderstood you. Agreements may need to be reconsidered, particularly when they were made without all the information being available.

This can be a valuable period for reviewing rather than rushing. Before sending the message, ask yourself whether it genuinely reflects what you feel. Before making an accusation, consider what you actually know rather than what you fear. Before agreeing to something, ask whether you still feel the same way you did when the original agreement was made.

And if there is something you need to say, remember that honesty does not have to be harsh. Some of the most courageous conversations are also the gentlest.

Venus Returns to Libra

Around 25 October, Venus retrogrades back into Libra, the sign she rules, and remains there until turning direct at 22°52′ Libra on 14 November.

The emphasis now changes. Scorpio has asked us to look beneath the surface. Libra asks us how we bring that awareness back into relationship.

This is where questions of balance, reciprocity and fairness become particularly important. But Libra's deeper lesson is not simply about keeping everyone happy. Sometimes what looks like peace from the outside is actually one person continually compromising themselves to prevent conflict.

True balance requires that both people have a place within the relationship. It asks whether both voices are being heard, whether giving and receiving are reasonably reciprocal, and whether compromise has become a pattern of self-abandonment.

It also asks us to listen.

This may be one of the more important lessons of this retrograde. We can become so certain of our own interpretation of a situation that we stop being available to another person's experience. Libra reminds us that hearing another perspective does not mean surrendering our own truth. We can listen without agreeing. We can disagree without becoming enemies. We can acknowledge another person's experience without abandoning our own.

That is a much deeper form of balance.

Venus Opposite Chiron: When an Old Wound Is Touched

Venus opposes Chiron in Aries twice during this wider cycle, with the first opposition occurring on 28 October at approximately 28° Libra/Aries and the second on 28 November after Venus has turned direct.

Chiron often brings us into contact with an old sensitivity: the fear of rejection, the feeling of not being chosen, the belief that we are too much or not enough, or the painful experience of having to suppress part of ourselves in order to belong.

During a Venus–Chiron opposition, a present-day interaction can sometimes touch something much older. A comment, a silence or a familiar pattern may suddenly carry far more emotional weight than the situation itself seems to warrant. That does not mean the feeling is wrong. It may simply mean that the present moment has touched an old place within us.

This is where compassion becomes essential. We are not the person we were when the original wound occurred. We may still carry the sensitivity, but we have more awareness now. We have more experience, more choice and perhaps a greater ability to recognise what is happening while it is happening.

The goal is not to become completely untouched by our past. It is to stop allowing the past to make every decision about the present.

We can notice when we are about to abandon ourselves simply to keep the peace. We can ask for what we need without turning the request into a test. We can hear another person's truth without automatically interpreting it as a judgement of our worth. The wound may still speak, but it does not have to be the voice that leads.

When Venus Turns Direct

Venus stations direct on 14 November at approximately 22°52′ Libra, but the story does not end there. The Venus post-shadow continues until around 15 December, giving us time to integrate what the retrograde has revealed.

This is an important part of any retrograde cycle. We are not expected to have everything figured out the moment a planet changes direction. Sometimes understanding takes time. We may need to watch how a relationship feels after an important conversation, see whether a new boundary actually changes a pattern, or give ourselves permission to sit with a decision rather than immediately acting on it.

The clarity that comes through a retrograde often becomes meaningful through what we do afterwards. Perhaps we stop explaining away something we already know. Perhaps we become more honest about what we need. Perhaps we realise that being understanding does not mean accepting everything. Perhaps we finally understand that loving another person does not require us to abandon ourselves. And perhaps we discover that a relationship can become stronger when both people are allowed to be honest.

What Is This Venus Retrograde Really Asking of Us?

It would be easy to describe this Venus retrograde as a period when relationships are tested, secrets are exposed and old wounds return. There is certainly potential for all of those experiences, particularly with Venus moving through Scorpio and Libra while interacting with Pluto, Chiron and Mercury.

But I think there is a more compassionate way to understand it.

This is an invitation to become more conscious of how we love, how we value ourselves and how we participate in our relationships. Scorpio asks us to have the courage to look beneath the surface. Libra then asks us to bring what we have discovered into relationship with greater honesty, fairness and awareness.

Pluto may challenge the patterns that have kept us bound to something that no longer reflects who we are. Chiron may remind us where we are still tender. Mercury may ask us to reconsider the words we have spoken — and the ones we have left unsaid. And Venus, at the centre of it all, asks us to remember what is truly valuable.

Perhaps the question is not simply, “Will this relationship survive?”

Perhaps the deeper question is:

“Can I remain true to myself while remaining open to another?”

That question reaches far beyond romantic relationships. It touches friendships, family, work, money, creativity and the quiet agreements we make with ourselves every day.

We do not have to force an ending. We do not have to make an immediate decision. We do not have to turn every uncomfortable realisation into a crisis. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is become quiet enough to see what is true, and then, with compassion for ourselves and for the people whose paths intersect with ours, choose what comes next.

Perhaps this is what it means for the masks to come off.

Not that someone is exposed as good or bad, right or wrong, but that we become less willing to hide from ourselves.

And sometimes what we discover beneath the mask is not something to fear, but a more authentic version of who we are becoming. ✨

A Question to Carry With You

As Venus moves through Scorpio and Libra, perhaps there is no need to ask what you should hold onto or what you should let go of just yet.

Instead, ask yourself:

What has become clearer about what I value, what I need, and who I am when I stop trying to be what someone else needs me to be?

Sometimes clarity does not tell us what to do.

It simply gives us the courage to choose from a place of greater truth. ✨
