Mars Enters Leo -The Fire of Will Meets the Power of Transformation

On September 27/28, Mars enters Leo and steps into the radiant territory of the Sun.

Something shifts when Mars arrives here. The energy becomes warmer, bolder and more expressive, bringing a stronger urge to move, create, act and be seen. Mars supplies heat, courage, desire and momentum, while Leo carries the Sun's life force — creativity, self-expression, confidence and the simple courage to be who you are.

Yet this is not merely a story about becoming more confident.

Mars is not entering an empty Leo. Jupiter is already here, expanding the themes of creativity, visibility and personal growth well into 2027. And across the zodiac, in early Aquarius, Pluto waits.

As Mars crosses the threshold into the Sun's kingdom, the question of power becomes impossible to ignore.

Mars in the Sun's Kingdom

Mars represents the part of us that wants to move forward. It is desire translated into action — the instinct to choose, initiate, pursue and act upon what matters to us.

Leo, meanwhile, is the heart, identity and radiant expression of the self. Ruled by the Sun, it asks us to live from the centre of our own lives rather than constantly looking outside ourselves for permission or direction.

When Mars enters Leo, action and identity become closely connected. We may feel a stronger impulse to create, take the lead, follow what makes us feel alive or finally stop hiding something that wants to be expressed. There can be a renewed desire to participate more fully in our own lives rather than simply observing from the sidelines.

But Leo poses a quieter and more important question:

What are you actually expressing?

Are you expressing who you truly are, or the version of yourself you believe will earn recognition?

At its deepest, Leo is not about demanding attention. It is about allowing your own light to exist without apology or performance. The Sun does not have to convince anyone to shine. It simply shines.

Jupiter Has Already Lit the Fire

Jupiter has been travelling through Leo since late June, amplifying themes of creativity, courage, self-expression and personal growth. Now Mars arrives and adds movement to whatever Jupiter has been expanding.

This can make the coming months feel particularly energising. Ideas that have been developing quietly may suddenly demand form. Desires that have been sitting in the background may ask for a decision. Something you have been considering may finally feel ready to move from thought into action.

But expansion also magnifies whatever is already present.

If something is alive within you, Jupiter can help it grow. If something is driven by the need for recognition, control or validation, that can also become more visible.

And this is where Pluto enters the story.

Mars Opposite Pluto

In early October, Mars in the first degrees of Leo forms an opposition with Pluto in the first degrees of Aquarius. This becomes one of the most potent signatures surrounding Mars' entrance into Leo.

Mars and Pluto both carry enormous force, yet they speak very different languages of power. Mars moves outward through action and desire, while Pluto takes us underneath the surface, exposing what is driving us at a deeper level.

Mars says, "I want to act."

Pluto asks, "But why?"

Mars says, "This is what I want."

Pluto asks, "What is underneath that desire?"

And Mars says, "I will."

Pluto asks, "Who is really holding the power?"

Because this opposition takes place across the Leo–Aquarius axis, the story is not only personal. It also touches the relationship between the individual and the collective.

Leo represents the individual heart — the desire to express, create and become fully oneself. Aquarius points towards the wider field: community, society, systems, collective consciousness and our relationship with something larger than ourselves.

The tension between them asks an important question: How fully can we become ourselves without requiring the world to revolve around us?

Perhaps true sovereignty begins there.

Mars opposite Pluto can bring intensity around control, resistance and the use of personal will. It may reveal where we have been fighting for recognition, trying to prove our worth or pushing against something because we are afraid of losing ground.

Sometimes the most powerful action is not pushing harder. It is recognising where our energy is being consumed unnecessarily and choosing not to place our fire there.

You may, for example, feel a sudden and fierce urge to assert yourself in a situation where you have been compromising for a long time. Yet underneath that impulse may be a deeper realisation: the real question is not "How do I win?" but "Why have I been giving my power away in the first place?"

Expression Versus Performance

One of the most interesting themes of Mars in Leo is the distinction between expressing yourself and performing yourself.

Expression arises from within. Performance depends upon an audience.

When we are connected to ourselves, creativity becomes less about being admired and more about allowing something true to move through us. We create because something wants to exist. We speak because something needs to be expressed. We act because something within us knows that it is time to move.

There is a completely different quality to action when it comes from that place.

Pluto's presence across the zodiac asks us to notice where our personal power may have become entangled with external validation. Where do we need to be seen in order to feel that we matter? Where have we confused recognition with self-worth? And what might happen if we no longer needed the response of others to confirm what we already know within ourselves?

The Longer Story

Mars will remain in Leo until late November 2026, but this is not the end of the story.

Mars will return to Leo during its 2027 retrograde cycle, creating a much longer conversation around courage, creativity, visibility and the authentic use of personal will. What begins now may therefore unfold in stages, giving us more than one opportunity to recognise what we are being asked to act upon and what we may need to reconsider.

The first ingress is the opening chapter.

The deeper story develops over time.

Working With the Transit

One of the simplest ways to work with this transit is to look at the house where Leo falls in your birth chart. This is the area of life where Mars will bring heat, movement and initiative, encouraging you to become more active and intentional.

If Leo falls in your first house, the focus may be on identity, presence and how you show up in the world. In the fifth house, creativity, romance, play and the things that bring genuine joy may become more energised. In the tenth house, career, public visibility and leadership may become more prominent.

You can also look for natal planets or important chart points around the early degrees of the fixed signs — Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio — as these areas can be more directly activated by the Mars–Pluto opposition in early October.

Rather than asking what is going to happen, you might ask what is asking to become more conscious.

Where is your energy going?

What are you trying to prove?

What are you ready to create?

And where have you been giving your power away?

The Real Question

Perhaps the most useful question this transit offers is not, "How can I become more powerful?"

It is: What happens when I stop giving my power away?

Can you create without needing permission? Can you be visible without performing? Can you lead without controlling? Can you stand in your truth without requiring everyone else to agree with you? Can you follow what makes you feel alive without needing to justify it?

There is a difference between being powerful and being connected to your power.

Mars brings the fire, Jupiter expands it, and Pluto asks us to transform our relationship with that fire.

Somewhere between the three is a quieter invitation — not to become louder, more impressive or more important, but to become more fully yourself.

More authentic.

Because perhaps that is where real power begins.

Authenticity is the password.
Inner power is the access.
Becoming is the journey.
